Jesus was assaulted by the evil of life-categorized as the devil when Jesus was vulnerable. He had finished a long fast and the devil knew he was hungry. Jesus was tempted but stood firm on his values and turned away from the assault on his weakness and stood by his values.
We are assaulted in overt and covert ways everyday by forces in the world that want to take us away from our values of love, trust and building up of community. We can turn to God and trust in God's love and presence that can assist us in turning away from the temptations of the world where we gain at a cost to others.
The presence of the love of God within us will assist us in perseverance over the forces of evil. May we all have a Holy and reflective Lent.
